It had been 3 years, 53 games and a whole lot of agony, but the longest losing streak in New York State basketball is finally over. The Warsaw Tigers defeated Pavilion 49-42. Many believed day may never come again where Warsaw leaves the hardwood a winner, but they proved all the naysayers wrong.
The streak had taken a lot of energy out of the team, Mike P. said, “We played our hearts out, it’s a shame the game was even that close.”
The team is very close in many aspects such as their mutual obsession with Pokémon. After speaking to many players on the team they said playing Pokémon before and after games helps them bond and become better as a team on the court. Mike P. said, “I don’t believe we would’ve won our game without our epic Pokémon duels, they really make us a better team.”
Senior guard and foreign exchange student Even W. said, “we really played a great game out there on the court and gave it all full effort, although I have to say nothing really beat playing Pokemon with my boys after the big win.”
Most sports team get into heated arguments about who’s the best athlete and how to improve on their game. Not the Warsaw boys’ basketball team! They often get into heated arguments during practice about whose Pokemon deck is the best and sometimes in practice it gets carried out so far that the entire team gets bitter feelings about each other.
The streak is finally over; with the help of Pokemon, the team putting together a full game, Pavilions star player being sick for the game and lots of teamwork we have finally returned to our winning ways.
